5 Day Highland Getaway - 2012
5
Day Highland Getaway Day
1: We begin by meeting at our shop in North River Bridge for a meet and greet and a pre-trip briefing. Once geared up and underway we will paddle out through the mouth of the St. Ann’s harbour passing eagles nests, a cave, a waterfall and the Englishtown Ferry. One we pass the ferry we enter the Bay and the opening to the Atlantic Ocean. After 3-4 hours of paddling we paddle from the Ocean to Indian Brook where we set camp along the fresh river bed. Unload, set camp and then have a huge feast with the group as we get to know each other a little better. Day 2: After a relaxing nights sleep we prepare a healthy breakfast and then gear up for our next leg of the paddle to Wreck Cove Point. We will take a lunch break at the Little River Wharf and watch as the fishermen come in and out of their port with their catch. This is where we can stretch and go for a rejuvenating dip in the Atlantic Ocean. The opportunity to chat with the local fishermen here is also a probability. Once we arrive in Wreck Cove Point we will set up camp in a field overlooking the ocean. We then build our campfire, cook supper, and ZzZzZzZzZz…. You will be sleepy… very sleepy J! If you decide to get up early you can watch the Wreck Cove Sunrise from your tent to the East Day

4: Day 5: All good things will come to an end! This is our last day and on this day we will paddle around White Point up through to South Harbour. The sea and landscapes here are mind blowing. The mountains of the Highlands melt down to the sea. This is a fine, fine place to be where the fishing boats rest for the nights before heading out for a catch of lobster. Lobster you ask.... If we are lucky~ We will take a little break around White Point and then make way to South Harbour where we will unload boats and say our goodbyes with lots of hugs and address exchanges so we can plan our next trip. You will feel refreshed and empowered by the accomplishment that you just undertook. We thank you for choosing North River Kayak Tours to guide you on your journey. Namaste! thoughts this week have been dominated by the joy of
paddling and exploring beautiful Cape Breton Island.
I don't think there could be a more precious place on earth."
